For anyone who has never suffered from ringworm, the name can be quite alarming and yet it is actually a type of skin infection. It can affect anyone of any age although it seems to be a little bit more common in young children.
Normally a red raised area of skin that is slightly rough to the touch in the form of a ring, hence the name, it can be quite itchy but must not be scratched at all if possible as this will only aggravate the condition. Ringworm is actually caused by a fungal infection and the spores of the fungus can be picked up either from another person who is infected or animals including farm cattle, domestic animals such as cats and dogs or even soil can hold the spores.
Wherever it is that you pick it up from one thing is for sure, you will need to obtain cream from either a doctors or a pharmacist to help clear the infection up, without medical aid, the infection has no chance of clearing up on its own there are home remedies also to try.
Ringworm can be spread very easily from either person to person or animal to person so it is imperative that contact of the affected area is avoided at all by anyone else.
Once the affected area is treated and the condition has been cleared up then the skin will be clear again and you should have no lasting marks or scars.
If however you do contract ringworm it is always best to seek medical attention promptly otherwise if left untreated then it may take the efforts of a dermatologist to help clear up the infection which will also take longer to treat and although not harmful the condition can be a little bit unsightly and something that people may be embarrassed about.
